Pythagoras

The Pythagorean theorem applies to right triangles. It states that the sum of the squares of the two shorter sides (the legs) is equal to the square of the longest side (the hypotenuse). The formula is a² + b² = c², where a and b are the legs and c is the hypotenuse.

The Pythagorean theorem is used to:

* Calculating a length: If you know the length of two sides of a right triangle, you can calculate the third.

* Checking if a triangle is a right triangle: If the relationship a² + b² = c² holds true for the lengths of the sides of a triangle, then it is a right triangle. This is called the converse of the Pythagorean theorem.
